McBean’s Orchids have a new shop at 11 Cale St, Chelsea, SW3 3QS
The head of retail, Will Kerr is one of the nicest people I’ve met and is a great friend so he invited me to the opening – pictured below with the owner Rose Armstrong.
Will was previously the manager for McQueens in Claridges and Moyses and has been featured in Professional Florist Magazine and Wedding Flowers Magazine – so he knows his floristry!
The flowers and decor of the shop are amazing!

YES! L’Arche and Rock Paper Scissors London are relaunching their shop in West Norwood next Thursday and we would love you to come for wine and nibbles… yum!
We may still be knee deep in paint, wood shavings and tools we are determined to be up and running whilst looking as stylish as possible.
Here’s some more photos of our refurb – L’Arche staff member Paul who also runs the Garden and lots more is a very handy man and is literally building shelving and the displays himself whilst a few RPS members faff about with paint ;-P
Note: this blog post is a copy of the RockPaperScissorsLondon.co.uk blog post as I run both so I’m allowed! 🙂
Paul sorting emails as he still have to work whilst painting and building shelving!
We even roped in Aiden who had some spare time between meetings – did you know that L’Arche have been in that building for 40 years (L’Arche will be celebrating their 50th year soon!) and Aiden is the person raising funds to help improve their entire building as there are a few damp spots and crumbling bits so the place will be decorated again but it could be a few years before they have raised enough funds to do so.
Aiden & Elaine sorting the little office ready to have the holes filled and painted.
So pleased that Paul has organised a new carpet… can’t wait to see that installed… here’s a reminder of the old one… ick…
new carpet soon! thankfully. we had to fill in some holes in the floor and used some spare RPS leaflets to cover them otherwise people stepped in them!
So please come and visit us to say hi and have a nose at the new shiny white space on Thursday 1st October from 6pm – wine and nibbles (think there is some home baked goodies too!) included 😀
update: 30th September…
Apparently, there are shelving units that hate being painted and repeatedly tries to repel it even after a coat of primer… gargh!
The night before the launch and we think that we will have it fairly presentable 🙂 if still needs work afterwards we think the wine, cakes, cakepops, snacks, nibbles and healthy stuff will make up for it 😀
Here’s some more photos and we have lots to do in the morning to be ready at 6pm!
Paul drilling holes and Laura painting – me… faffing with my camera!
it does look nicer than before!
I’ve never thought of wearing a hat to paint but it’s a good idea – I tend to get paint all over me!
Paul who works for L’Arche declared he doesn’t actually like DIY… we all stared at him as he was the one that volunteered to do all the work… and has proceeded to do most of the work!
… Jam, Cake and Tea
Some photos taken at the L’Arche Open Garden on Saturday 5th September 2015.
Music, Tea and Cake – plus some lovely smelling fresh waffles 😀
Love the shape of this…
I’m terrible at naming plants and flowers so I hope to find out more soon.
The Rock Paper Scissor London members and the staff at L’Arche London will be redecorating the shop/foyer of the West Norwood branch.
We start this weekend – 29th August and hope to get most of the work done over the bank holiday and following week.
We plan to have a relaunch VIP party on the 1st October so please keep an eye for that as we will have wine, nibbles and cake – yay!
A huge thank you to the following people for their contributions:
Ivana on twitter @ivanabasicactor – responded to my tweet for paint donations and dropped of some white paint and a couple of brushes
Wayne from West Norwood Bzz Garage – responded to our Facebook plea and will supply us with five pots of white paint.
Anita from Diverse Gifts gave us some very long floating shelves to use and went to great lengths (no pun intended) to get them which included emptying her whole storage unit as the shelves were at the bottom and back (isn’t it always!!!) and then helped me wheel them on a trolley down from Brixton Hill to her shop in torrential rain – then she took the trolley back up the hill (had dodgy steering) and I then took the shelves home – a 15 minute walk turned into an hour of pigeon steps, lots of breaks and several buckets of sweat (ick). Which I had to do twice as I can’t carry 5 of those shelves in one go – I have to go back in the morning for the last small version – I spent the rest of the evening lying on my sofa until midnight when I actually started to do the other things that needed to be done. (one being this blog post!)
I am not carrying them to West Norwood!
We could do with some carpet but I’m guessing we are too late for that! hint hint 🙂
Before photos of the shop area:
I will be taking photos during and after 🙂
